Michigan State quarterback Connor Willis and the Spartans won the Big Ten Championship game and a berth in the Cotton Bowl over the Wolverines on Saturday night, giving the Spartans their fifth consecutive national title and the sixth in school history.
Willis completed 13-of-20 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.
The victory over the Huskies, which came on the heels of a loss to Michigan State on Saturday, was the Spartans’ sixth in a row.
They are now 4-1 in Big Ten games since becoming bowl eligible in 2012.
“It’s been a long time coming and it’s a great feeling to get back to the bowl,” Willis said.
“I’ve had some tough losses, but we’ve learned from them and now we want to continue on with this.”
WillIS also led Michigan State to the win over Minnesota on Saturday.
It was the first win for the Spartans since beating Michigan State in the 2015 Rose Bowl.
After the game, coach Brady Hoke said he was “really proud” of his team.
Michigan State has now won at least six in a season seven times.
The Spartans (6-1) are currently ranked No. 8 in the AP Top 25.
USC’s victory over Notre Dame on Saturday gave USC its first bowl win since the 2009 Fiesta Bowl.
The win was the fifth for USC, which has won at home at the Rose Bowl in three of the last four seasons.
For the Huskers (5-4), the victory was their first since beating Nebraska in the 2010 Rose Bowl and the third straight win over a ranked opponent.
Wisconsin’s victory against Ohio State on Friday night was the sixth win for Wisconsin, which is in the top 10 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and has a 3-1 record against ranked opponents.
Freshman quarterback Ryan Switzer, a junior, completed 21-of and 27-of.2 for 244 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in the win.
Switzer, who has started nine games in his first three seasons, is the fifth Husker in school annals to win a game.
Minnesota’s win over Nebraska was the second straight win for Minnesota.
Senior quarterback Justin Herbert scored on a 34-yard run to tie the game with 10 seconds left.
In the first half, Herbert was 8-of 9 passing for 87 yards and two touchdowns.
Ryan Williams, a sophomore, ran for 77 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown.
Williams has scored six touchdowns in three games this season, and was 1-of 4 passing for 18 yards with a sack.
Junior quarterback Connor Halliday rushed for 79 yards on 17 carries and a score on a 24-yard reception.
With the win, Minnesota is 6-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has reached the championship game in seven of the past eight years.
UNC’s win against Iowa on Friday was its third straight in Ames, Iowa, and its third win over Iowa State in its last four outings.
Following the win Saturday, Minnesota will travel to the Rose and Cotton Bowl.USC is in fourth place in the Associated Press Top 25 and is No. 15 in the country.
Wake Forest’s win at Georgia on Saturday was its fourth straight win in Atlanta.
NC State’s victory at South Carolina on Friday gave the Wolfpack its first victory over an ACC team since the 2015 Georgia-South Carolina game.
The Eagles, who are 2-2 in the ACC this season after beating Clemson and Notre Dame, have won eight of their last nine games.
Georgia’s win also marked the first time the Eagles have reached the SEC Championship Game in a calendar year.
North Carolina State’s win in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl was the third-straight win for NC State, which ranks fourth in the league with a 6-2 record.
On Saturday, the WolfPack will host No. 6 Clemson, which lost at Georgia, on ESPN.
