The Alabama game is a game of golf, and one of the big events of the season, but one of its greatest players is not a golfer.
He’s a black man.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Jordan Spieth will play in the U.S. Open on Monday.
Spieth, who is black, is playing in the first major-major women’s tournament in his native England.
He has not played professionally since 2008.
In addition to winning his first major title in 2014, he has been in the Top 100 all three years he has played.
And yet, Spieth is not considered a black athlete in the United States.
“I’m not trying to be black,” Spieth told CBS News.
“I’m just trying to play well.
I’m not the only black athlete that can play well, but I feel like I can play better than everyone else.
I think that’s why I play so well in England, because I’ve played there, I’ve been there, and I’ve had great coaches.”
Spieth, a native of London, England, said he is proud to be an Englishman, even though he grew up in a country that has never fully integrated.
But his decision to compete in the event that he loves so much was sparked by a number of reasons.
“Being an American citizen, being an athlete, having the opportunity to play here, I just feel that’s what I need to do,” he said.
“And that’s something that the U-19 men’s team, the U19 women’s team — they’ve got great support.
I was very grateful for that.
I just felt like the U16s and the U17s were good enough to go and play in this tournament, and the opportunity that I had to play at this tournament was great.
I just felt that was the right thing to do.”
Spence, who will play for the first time in the tournament, will be playing against a host of young black athletes, many of whom are struggling in their careers to make it in the sport.
A recent survey of the top 200 athletes in the world found that one-third of them are African American.
The tournament is also being held in England and Germany, where black athletes are playing in top competitions for the very first time.
Black athletes are competing in major events that traditionally exclude white players.
Spence said the tournament was important because it is a major step forward.
“The U.K. has an amazing record of sports and culture and the British have really been one of our biggest fans and champions,” Spence told CBS.
“The sport here in the UK is really going to take off here.
We’ve just got to keep that momentum going and keep it going, and if we do, then hopefully in the next few years, we’ll be playing in London, in Germany, in other countries like that.”
While he is one of only a handful of black athletes in top-tier tournaments like the Masters, Masters-winning players like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia have been in front of an American audience for decades.
But Spieth has never faced the kind of scrutiny that a white athlete has.
“It’s just so weird,” Spences father, Eddie Spence, said.
Spieth is the youngest American to compete at the U20 World Golf Championships since Tiger Woods was 14.
He is also the youngest man ever to reach the U18 World Championship, the oldest ever to win the Masters.
He finished tied for second in the Masters in 2015 and finished fourth in 2016.
The U-18 World Golf Championship is one the biggest events in the golf world, but it is also one that Spieth said is not about the stars and the glamour of the competition.
The event is about people in need, he said, not stars and money.
“This is not really about a celebrity.
This is about being able to play the game and enjoy the game.
And you know, to me, this is the ultimate.
And it’s just a fantastic event to be able to have a great experience,” Spethis father said.”
You’ve got to appreciate it when you’re playing the game, and that’s all you can ask for.
You just want to play and enjoy it.”
