Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was benched Sunday after throwing two interceptions, but he could be the answer to their quarterback crisis.
As the Texans continue to struggle, there is a sense that their starting quarterback, Brock Osweiler, has a serious case for being benched.
And if he does, it could put the Texans in a position to try and find a backup quarterback.
The Texans, after all, have been without backup Ryan Fitzpatrick for the past three games, and the team also announced that Brock Osbeiler will not play against the Raiders on Monday night.
If Watson starts Sunday against the Seahawks, it will give the Texans a better chance of finding a backup to Watson, who has thrown two interceptions and was sacked three times in the past two games.
Watson is only a rookie, and is only two games removed from being the first-round pick of the New England Patriots.
His career completion percentage is 56.4 percent.
However, his quarterback rating of 93.6 is still well below his career average of 97.1.
In the preseason, Watson was considered the No. 1 quarterback in the NFL, but the Texans have struggled mightily since then.
They lost a total of 10 games in 2015 and 16 games in 2016, which is more than two games per week.
This year, they have only lost three games in a row.
Despite the struggles, the Texans believe that they can turn things around.
“I know Brock can make the plays and be the leader, but we just have to figure out what we’re doing,” Texans general manager Rick Smith said.
Smith said that the team was excited to have Osbeier back this season, as it has not been an easy transition.
It’s difficult to find a quarterback in this league who can be a leader and make the big plays when he’s not on the field, he said.
“But he has the talent to do that, and it’s just a matter of getting him in the right situation.”
Smith also said that Osbeiest was not ready for this year’s league and that he would have to improve on his accuracy in the air.
During his tenure as a starter, Osbeie is 8-9 with a 3.53 ERA and 2,927 passing yards.
After struggling this year, Osweier threw for 4,829 yards, 29 touchdowns and 17 interceptions last season.
He threw two touchdowns against the Chiefs last Sunday and he also ran for a touchdown.
With Osweiers confidence being low, Watson has had to be the focus of the Texans offense.
But this week, the team is starting to show more confidence in their young quarterback.
The Texans are 7-1 and the Seahawks are 4-2.
Both teams have lost to teams in the top 10 of the league.
San Francisco is currently ranked 11th.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is 5-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 1,091 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Wilson is also averaging 38.7 passing yards per game.
A loss to Seattle would mean that the Texans would be without a starting quarterback for at least three games.
But that would leave them with the potential to add a player to their roster.
According to a source, Texans head coach Bill O’Brien was interested in acquiring veteran backup quarterback Austin Davis.
Davis has had some struggles this season and his accuracy is not where it needs to be.
O’Brien, who is from Kansas City, could use a veteran backup, as well.
While the Texans were unable to sign another veteran backup this offseason, they did sign former Browns backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Garoppolo threw two touchdown passes against the Broncos on Sunday and his passer rating of 97% is a career high.
That could be a plus for the Texans.
Another option would be to draft an NFL-ready quarterback in a draft that opens on Monday.
On Monday, the first round of the 2018 NFL draft is set to begin.
There are a number of teams who have shown interest in trading up to get a quarterback.
New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa is one of those teams.
An NFL scout told The Dallas Morning News that he has a high opinion of Enunwawa.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen tweeted out that Enunwalas stock is rising.
At the end of last season, Enunwas ranked sixth in the draft according to ESPN.
Enunwa has also said he is not worried about his stock, per ESPN.
He was the first pick of ESPN’s first-ever draft.
For now, it’s unclear if the Texans are the right fit.
